Patricia shiraz has tended to live in the shadow of its highly acclaimed sibling, cabernet sauvignon. It’s been an easy wine to take for granted, but no more. In an excellent year like 2017, it certainly stands up quality-wise. Ripe in fruit – all blackberry, dark cherry with a touch of sweet blueberry – and woody spices and smoky, toasty oak, it’s far from shy. Concentrated fruit flavours are joined by a layer of aromatics which really lift the wine. It’s medium-bodied and graceful with well-rounded tannins that fit into every crevice, providing a seamless flow of flavour with more than enough structure to see out a good decade or more in the bottle.
