Calabria Three Bridges Barossa Valley Mourvedre 2019

Share

Mourvedre loves a warm to hot climate which makes the Barossa Valley one of its natural homes in Australia. The only problem – there is not much of it to go around. Here we have a good example with a strong, savoury varietal signature which provides a nice point of difference from the local shiraz. It is bursting at the seams with sweet fruit and layers of blackberry, mulberry and earthy Barossa aromas. There is also some meaty, animal fur complexity which provides an attractive savoury edge. The wine is then dry and energetic – Mourvedre’s acidity driving a punchy and rich palate that is well supported by toasty oak. It’s got some structure too but its’s well hidden under layers of dark fleshy fruit. It’s a hearty red that is a good introduction to Mourvedre’s unique style.
