Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Shows the other side to Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon with less obvious immediate fruit impact and more intrinsic savoury allure. Dark beef stock, earth, leather, smoked meats – savoury, mature and complex – are front and centre against a background of black fruits, bush notes, briar and spice. As a five-year-old it is moving into a world of earthly delights, of undergrowth, mushroom, wild berries, woodsy spice. Tannins are focused but drying towards the finish. Not as plush as it might have been in youth but entering into and enjoying a mature stage.
