Chapel Hill’s The MV reds are a real mix of styles from the approachable to the savoury, to something that might best be described as more traditional. The MV Shiraz falls firmly into the latter category. That colour in deepest, darkest, glistening purple. That scent in dark plum, ripe black berries, earth, chocolate and spiced oak in allspice and clove. The fruit is ripe, earthy and dark; the texture warm and well-coated. And then there are those tannins, enough to make their impact felt, enough to offer the kind of structure that will see the Shiraz through to a good 10 years or so. As I was saying, very McLaren Vale.
