The 2018 Bordeaux vintage has been crowned exceptional if not legendary status thanks to a hot and dry Summer. Located just to the North of the city of Bordeaux, Chateau Magnol is in the Haut-Medoc region which is known for its earlier drinking styles. This is an attractive vintage made from a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. The year is on show with ripe blackberry and blackcurrant fruits lifted by balanced leafiness which are all wrapped up in a cloak of cedary oak. Dry, and quite supple, fruit on the palate is complex and more in the herbal and gravel spectrum underlined by open-knit tannins. It’s your classic lunchtime claret to enjoy over the next five years or so.
