Chiara Condello Sangiovese Predappio Riserva Le Lucciole 2016

Share

Sangiovese is grown all over Italy and, while Tuscany might be its spiritual home, there are plenty of other regions that produce delicious examples. This version, the Reserve bottling from Chiara Condello, is stacked full of personality and flavour, with a distinct nod to the Brunellos of Montalcino.

It is a mid ruby colour with a little age showing but that is to be expected. Dark cherry, baked earth, spice, tobacco and dried herbs – the fruit is still bright and vibrant which bodes well for the future. It takes a delightfully rustic turn on the palate more in the tobacco, charcuterie and truffle flavour zone. The tannins are firm and sinewy but welcoming before supporting a tarry, meaty finish. Enjoy slowly in front of an open fire.
