Collector Rose Red City Sangiovese 2019

I remember buying this Sangiovese for Rosetta restaurant (Melbourne) wine list over six years ago, the reason being that I was looking for Australian wines made from Italian grape varieties that could remind me of home. And this one does exactly that. It’s that earthy, Morello cherries, dried porcini mushrooms, terracotta, brewed black tea leaves and dried cranberries that I could recognise miles away, like a trained truffle hunter. The palate mirrors the nose, and with those bold tannins, the refreshing acidity, the savouriness, the measured sourness of its red fruit, the alluring spiciness of the oak, the balance and savoury long length, I have to go high. And because it made my heart race like I was back home in Tuscany, I have to go beyond.
