Lovely vibrant pale gold colour. Bursting aromatics of briney minerality, crushed hazelnut and walnut husk are followed by bruised apple, some lemon butter, a hint of dusty old oak, and a whiff of smoke in support. A swirl of the glass unlocks more of the apple fruit notes to fill it out, alongside a glimmer of salted dough adding umami complexity. There’s a lot going on, but it’s all focused and cohesive. This reads like a much younger wine in terms of energy and verve. Good texture to the palate, which interplay with a tangy and nervy aesthetic. Intense brine, ripe apple, and preserved lemon grab at the mouth, surrounded by crushed, grilled nuts and smoke. The saline drive to this wine is huge, and the bitter, nutty notes permeate the finish which is tangy, briney and long. Really good.
