Dreaded Friend by ChaLou Grenache 2021

Share

This is your classic modern Australian version of Grenache that brings out the natural generosity and sheet drinkability of this variety made with fruit from Canowindra, a short 30 kilometre drive south-west of Orange. This is a fair step up on the previous vintage, packing more power and complexity, with 40% whole bunches also adding a crunchy texture. It starts out with a big hit of red liquorice, red cherry and raspberry fruits that are gently fragrant and beautifully pure. There is also a subtle, underlying theme of dark earth that adds a savoury touch. The palate takes a more savoury, spicy turn with dark berry fruits and meaty undertones. There is also a delicious silkiness and bright acidity which combined create a delicious package that demands a glass or three.
