Eastern Laneway Vintners Grampians Shiraz 2020

You don’t often get a wine like this from a supermarket. But here we have a new age red wine that will get inner-city hipsters bashing down the doors at ALDI. It’s a small-batch shiraz from a single vineyard in the Grampians, which is practically organic, and has been whole bunch fermented with wild yeasts and not much added, except grapes. It’s vegan friendly too and has all the savoury elements you’d expect.

Lightly coloured, the wine opens up with beautifully vibrant aromatics – cranberry, raspberry and cherry with spicy, stalky fruits plus even a tobacco and meaty edge thrown in – talk about complex. That continues on the palate where the wine takes a more savoury and distinctly food friendly turn with meaty, spicy flavours plus plenty of chalky tannins. It’s edgy for sure and a good example of the style. Match it up with a platter of cheese and serious smallgoods.
