I liked this wine a lot, right from the first sniff. A blend of Montepulciano (a grape I’m happy to see being embraced more by Aussie winemakers), Shiraz, Mataro and Nero d’Avola, the nose is intensely fruity, turning savoury with a bit of air. It displays black cherry, raspberry, plum, pepper, vanilla, meat and beetroot, the tertiary characters only starting to show themselves. The real appeal is on the palate, as the flavours are full and rich, but not overwhelming, showing balance, brightness and never being overpowered by the 14% alcohol. I believe there’s the potential for it to improve even more, although it’s absolutely singing right now.
