Frankland Estate FRANC 2024

Hunter Smith is a firm believer in the power of Cabernet Franc. The grape plays a significant role in his superb Olmo’s Reward red blend. Here, we see it as a stand-alone wine showcasing a wild berried, herbal flecked look that highlights its striking individuality. The fragrant introduction tells the story with aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, cherry with hints of green pepper, dried herbs, jalapeño and tobacco leaf. Savoury and intriguing, the palate is pure Cabernet Franc with its herbal influenced edginess and sour cherry fruits and summer berries. Texturally, it’s quite chalky and dry. Offers a fascinating insight into a grape we so rarely see single.
