Frankland Estate Olmo’s Reward 2021

Share

The Estate’s prestige red and a perennial favourite from the region. The grapes are all sourced from their Isolation Ridge vineyard with the Cabernet Franc (90%) coming from three discrete parcels. It is blended with their best Malbec (2%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (8%). This is a serious contender for the very best Cab Franc (or Cab Franc dominant blend) in the country. Fifteen months in a mix of large oak and just 300 dozen made. Dark blood red, we have notes of bay leaves, spices, cedar, earth, black fruits and tobacco leaves. There is an intrinsic elegance to this wine, as well as serious intensity, balance and length. Early complexity is already building with a fine lingering finish and silky tannins. The wine has such good balance and will drink beautifully for the next ten to fifteen years. Always a top notch wine, this is as good a version of the Olmo’s Reward as I can recall. In fact, an absolute cracker!
