“Heart-and-soul Barossa!” is a favoured expression of a fellow wine writer, one delivered with an exclamation point. I have borrowed it here because they were the first thoughts that came to me when tasting this plush, dense Shiraz, such a good example of the Barossa traditional style of Shiraz. Lots of spice and warm textural layers of flavour rich in black and blue fruits, some briar and acacia aromatics, bramble and herbal spearmint, too. They come together on the palate and it’s a well-judged, well-balanced meeting. While the alcohol might read 14.5%, the taste is more in the medium-bodied spectrum. It’s quite the charmer.

Over the years she has written for most Australian wine magazines and these days calls WinePilot home. She is also a Tasting Panel member on the Halliday Wine Companion. She was named Wine Communicator of the Year and Legend of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival in 2014 and in 2018 Legend of the Vine.
