Head Wines The Redhead Shiraz 2018

One of the best places to see a sunset in the Barossa is on Menglers Hill. Nearby is an exposed, stony vineyard which is the source of the Redhead Shiraz. It sits at 500m, far above the valley floor, and is a unique expression of the Barossa.

The wine has a lot to give from the get-go. It is smoky, spicy and meaty which is then underpinned by layers of sweet, leathery, back cherry fruits. The palate is a slightly different story – more closed and chewy with mid-weight. The fruit is brooding black cherry and cocoa well balanced with sinewy tannins finishing long and oaky, although that will come back in time. Give this wine at least five years to see its best.
