This Dolcetto from Langhorne Creek is such an experience of discovery and indeed, my first encounter with an Australian example of this variety. It is bright with a really exuberant fruit forward personality that jumps out of the glass. A pool of aromas of plum, blueberry and sage clearly denote its early drinking purpose, as no oak was implemented. A juicy and bouncy wine with plenty of charm, and an utterly delicious red cherry expression on the palate, finishing soft and refreshing.
I enjoyed it with a mezze plate of cheese and ham empanadas, goat’s cheese, olive paste, feta, coleslaw salad and sriracha sauce. The wine’s attributes combined with this Mediterranean food affair are an exotic combination. The interaction between the vivid acidity of the wine with the texture and saltiness of the goat’s cheese is particularly attractive. This Dolcetto offers plenty to enjoy, with or without food with great fruit concentration, flair and uniqueness, all at once.
