Henschke Five Shillings 2023

There’s a lot of history celebrated here. A blend of Shiraz and Mataro, the wine represents the style of dry red first made at Henshcke back in the 1860s. Shiraz (75%) takes the lead role playing bass notes in sweet black fruits, bramble and plum, while Mataro brings some scintillating high notes in a stunning display of herbals and florals. Dried herbs – sage, fennel, black pepper – bring an arresting edge to the wine, an extra point of interest in what is already an attractive Barossan red. Earth, aniseed and dark chocolate fill out a juicy and mighty tasty palate. It’s an easy decision to open now and enjoy.
