Henschke Five Shillings Shiraz Mataro 2025

Share

One of several heartfelt dedication wines within the Henschke portfolio, this referencing the earliest red wines the original father and son settlers produced in the 1860s and ‘70s, a dry red thought most likely to be a Shiraz and Mataro blend. 160 odd years later, here is a similar duet, a mix of Eden Valley and Barossa Valley fruit, Shiraz dominant at 71% of the cuvee. There’s a rustic feel here with smells of garden beds and earth floor sheds hanging with old tools, a similar vibe in the palate, tangy yet with a granular tannin coating in the finish. A soulful wine that speaks of an honoured history.
