Henschke Johanne Ida Selma Blanc de Noir MD

This wine came out of the blocks and absolutely blew my socks off with its raw power and complexity. A quick look at the pedigree and it all started to make sense as it includes high quality pinot noir reserve wines stretching from 2016 all the way back to 1997. I doubt there is any other sparkling wine with this kind of vintage range anywhere in the country.

It is not shy and radiates with beautiful pinot noir characters including layers of powerful toasty aged fruits beautifully balanced with youthful citrus, rose petal and raspberry. It is all matched up to praline and almond meal lees complexity on a creamy palate that is underlined by considerable acidity. It’s an experience and quite spectacular.
