This is a new wine from a small patch of vines in the newly acquired Mount Crawford vineyard in the cool hills of the southern part of the Barossa Valley. Garganega is famously the variety of Soave in the Veneto region of Italy, but in Australia there is only a small amount produced – at last count only a couple of dozen wineries with a garganega in their range.
The Hentley Farm Garganega is true to type and it’s delicious, with attractive exotic spice, ginger plant, citrus blossom, stone fruit and oyster shell aromas on the nose, whilst the palate is all about roundness and texture. The wine is fresh and vibrant and has a savoury saline finish, making it incredibly food friendly.
