Hewitson Barrel 1853 Shiraz Mourvèdre 2020

A 50/50 barrel blend of the best selections of the 2020 Monopole Shiraz and the 2020 Old Garden Mourvèdre. All vines have direct lineage to the 1853 plantings. Immense and everchanging nose: Rum n’ Raisin chocolate, tea cake, fresh cardboard box, blue to black fruits with plum highlights, thick Turkish coffee, nori, roast meat depth and stalky woody clove on an intense and driving palate. There’s a touch of wildness and something untamed around the edges before a narrow-eyed focus of impeccable length. The tannins hyperknit and mesh while maintaining a neat-stepping elegance through the long finish.
