Hewitson Old Garden Mourvedre, Barossa Valley 2018

Share

This Mourvedre is from 1853 plantings and are said to be the oldest plantings on earth, impressive! The wine shows lifted perfume of violet and lavender, from the 50% whole bunch ferment, accentuating the florals of the variety. The velvety texture of vanilla and spice combines with savoury earthy undertones, Hoisin sauce and powdered shiitake notes coat the soft powdery tannins and the lashings of oak add support to this richer style.  It is like a cross between the plushness of a Yecla Monastrell and the chalky minerality of a Bandol, but all made in Australia.
