Through a quirk in property borderlines in the Dorrien section of the central Barossa Valley, Dean Hewitson became the custodian of 3 hectares of 1996 planted Cabernet Sauvignon. He’s now given this vineyard its own plotline, hailing from the left bank of the Para River that winds through the Valley floor. (The Left Bank in wine culture more commonly refers to the Cabernet dominant sector of France’s Bordeaux region.) Clever. Witty. A wine with its own sense of place – Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon that’s generous with dark berry and plum, compote spices and supportive cedary senses, perhaps even a small amount of whole bunch included in ferment. It’s rich with fruit-driven life force, never weighty, and most desirable and delicious. Drink with the best steak you can muster.
