Hewitson The Mad Hatter Shiraz 2020

I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for The Mad Hatter, as it was one of the first wines from Hewitson that made me sit up and take notice. It is a more complete wine than The Ancients, with strong complexity and persistence. It opens with lovely clay/earthy tones well supported by a rich vein of fruits of the forrest with old oak couched in behind. There is then that classic Hewitson style of power and subtlety with an impressive mix of fruit and structure that are superbly balanced before a finish with good persistence and length. The Mad Hatter is as dependable as ever.
