Hewitson Truffle Row Carignan Syrah 2021

Share

A fine Barossan example of another Rhône blend, this time involving the rarely seen Carignan, paired with the more traditional Shiraz. Climate change and a better understanding just might see the use of Carignan increase significantly in popularity. For the moment, this is a fine example to get your teeth into. Purple maroon in colour, this opened with earthy notes, dried herbs, spices, mulberries, leather, cloves, a hint of animal skins and game. Barossa, with a respectful nod to the Rhône. Supple and soft with deceptive length and gentle, fine but ultimately slightly chewy tannins. Some chocolate notes on the finish. Like this a lot and it will drink very well for the next five to eight years.
