Old Barossa vignerons referred to their vineyards as gardens, with the three gardens represented here by the three different varieties of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. These varieties’ birthplace is the Rhône Valley in France but they have found a well-suited home in Australia, in vineyards in the Barossa region (including the Eden Valley), and also in central Victoria around Nagambie. This wine, from the Barossa, has a lovely perfume of honeysuckle, vanilla and white pepper, with ripe fruit richness and texture on the palate. The flavours continue of quince and pear, and savoury notes of straw and mineral. It finishes dry, clean and moreish. This wine is excellent value for the price, and would be wonderful with a tartlet of crab, beurre blanc and fresh dill.
