From a much lauded vintage in Margaret River comes Leeuwin Estate’s top Shiraz offering. This is a wine of elegance and freshness, though with some coiled complexity keen to unfurl over time. It opens with blackberry pastilles and dusty cedar oak before fleshing out with dried violets, black pepper, iodine minerality, plum, raspberry, blueberry and a saline nori-like element. Some black olive and brown spice savouriness emerge with air along with some earthy notes. It’s elegant and finely tuned with a sense of freshness. The palate is cool and svelte with a lifted feel and medium weight at most. Dark cherry, blackberry, pepper spice, plum. It’s linear and taut with a firm frame of grainy tannins funneling the wine to good length.
