Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon: when it’s good it’s mighty good, and this one is mighty good. A gorgeous expression of Coonawarra cabernet from an outstanding season that produced wines of power and elegance. This displays the intense Coonawarra blackcurrant fruit with a little black olive and bay leaf that screams cabernet delivered with typical Coonawarra style. This is where Coonawarra excels with such beautiful weight that caresses rather than bombards the senses. It’s effortless and very long and a wine with long term cellaring potential. For context I also tasted the 2015 which showed many similar vineyard characters with that minerally edge and distinct elegant palate length. And the 2010 which seemed to be in a time warp as it had hardly moved in its journey to maturity. Of the three outstanding wines tasted, the 2018 was my pick.
