Liv Zak Yarra Valley Block One 2020

An alternative title here is ‘franc and friends.’ Just which friends share Block One with franc is a bit of a mystery, but when they come together, they certainly make an impact. This is a joyous young red, perfect for the festive season. Full of life, it generously shares a perfume rich in red plum, cherry, cola, dried herbs, a touch of violet here, licorice spice there. The mood continues on the palate with lifted aromatics forming around a core of black and red berries – mainly cherry – with earth and a light dusting of green peppercorn pepperiness. Tannins are fine and work well with the fruit, promoting good balance throughout. Smooth, too, so plenty of class here.
