Maison Dousset Petit Chablis 2020

Share

Chablis really is the flavour of the month. A series of excellent vintages, prices far more realistic than those of neighbouring Burgundy and ever-increasing winemaking expertise are just some of the reasons we are enjoying more and more from this must-visit, picturesque region in France. Petit Chablis is the so-called next level down from Chablis, meaning that if you follow the good producers and vintages, you can find some excellent bargains. Part of the Domaine Millet stable, this is just that and under $30 for a top-notch Petit Chablis is a definite buy.

An attractive gleaming gold. The nose has mineral notes and a hint of sea-spray with a backing of stone fruit plus notably crisp pears. There is bright acidity to be found in this mid-length style. Good balance and while it might fade a fraction right on the finish, it drinks well above its station. Enjoy it now and for the next three to four years. If you are not familiar with a good Chablis, this is an ideal introduction.

Ken was born and bred in Brisbane, Queensland. He had a non-trendy, perfectly happy childhood, in a family convinced alcohol meant instant condemnation to Hades. But a break fishing on the Great Barrier Reef, and some good wine, started a serious obsession that eventually took over. It did not stop Ken being chastised later for drinking Pol champagne, disgusted he’d drink anything made by a Cambodian dictator. Now, Ken mostly writes on wine, champagne and spirits for various newspapers, magazines and books, but is perhaps best known for his work in The Courier Mail. He also has a little sideline writing on cigars, fishing, travel and food. When not writing, fly-fishing for trout in NZ or bonefish on the flats of Cuba, travelling or smoking cigars, he is no doubt following a variety of sporting teams – the occasionally glorious Queensland Reds rugby, the dysfunctional Washington Redskins, the dodgy Arsenal and especially revels in the world restored to its proper axis with the return of the Ashes to their rightful home.
