Marques del Atrio Rioja Reserva 2016

A very impressive and youthful colour here for a five year old Rioja which suggests this wine will continue to provide drinking pleasure for some years to come. It is also in peak drinking condition with its mix of dried tobacco, blackberry and cocoa aromas on a solid bed of old oak. We are well and truly in hearty red zone thanks to its rich dark fruits with a savoury twist. That twist is turned up on the palate with spice/earthy flavours now taking the lead with slightly chewy tannins which help to support a lingering finish. All in all, it’s a very attractive savoury red for mid week drinking.
