Monterra Elevage Barossa Shiraz 2018

Share

Serious quality is stamped all over this wine and no wonder – winemaking by Mike Farmilo, double Jimmy Watson Trophy winner and ex-Penfolds red winemaker. It’s a beautifully made Barossan with the depth of fruit and richness you’d expect but also with superb balance, which was not always easy in 2018.

Deeply coloured, it is a big and ripe Barossa style – liquorice, new leather, black pepper and blackberry fruits well matched to sweet oak. It’s then voluptuous and fleshy with great upfront impact of dark fruits and supple tannins which then hold for a generous finish. What’s not to like, especially matched up with flame grilled ribeye.
