A vintage that kept everyone on their toes, picking occurred in early May, from House Block 4, the coolest of sites. A selection of eight barriques were chosen to be included in the Mast. Matured in 25% new oak for 14 months. There is a purple haze of lilac flowers followed by Acai, bilberry and squeezed pomegranates. Fresh potting soil, soft licorice straps and plum skin. A spice box of ground cumin, gingernut and mace are weaved throughout the fruit. It’s hard not to be impressed but yet another outstanding and beautifully balanced wine. Ripe red apples and rambutans continue to give thanks to the grace of natural acidity. Tannins are powdery and fine making for exquisite drinking now or will continue to give in the cellar for another decade. In honour of Trevor Mast, this is true mastery in a bottle. A wonderful wine to serve with pink lamb cutlets. This is of outrageous value.
