Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards Tempranillo 2024

Plenty of vibrant fruit here! Tumbled strawberries, plum skin, spiced berries, boot polish, liquorice, choc dust, olive brine, saltbush. A dried hibiscus floral lift too. The palate is dense with rumbling, grippy tannins, dusty sunburnt Aussie earth, savoury spice and a toasty oak. Plenty of dried herbs on the finish and a little charcoal. There’s a moreish succulence thanks to the juicy acidity and fruit character, two elements that some lesser Tempranillo iterations lack and which are essential as a foil to the tea-leaf tannins. A wine fueled by dusty tapenade and Iberian fire in the belly. A dream of a BBQ wine but be certain to include some chorizo and spice-fuelled charcuterie.
