One Road Cabernet Merlot 2020

The scent of the wild Australian bush – eucalypt, bay leaf, briar – makes a lasting impression. Deep, blackberry notes join up on the palate and while the fruit is sweet and ripe it is dominated by the presence of a penetrating eucalyptus that doesn’t let go. This can be a divisive question among wine drinkers. When is the scent and taste of eucalyptus too much? Yes, it can be simply a testament to the site/s in which the wine was grown (and the proximity of gum trees to vines), but it can also play too big a role throwing a wine out of balance. Fortunately, the ripeness of fruit prevails – just – and a gentle leafiness and middle palate texture – helps save the day.
