Paisley Riesling Eden Valley Cashmere 2023

Share

The Paisley name comes from the Scottish town of Paisley, and yes, the town is synonymous with the fashion design. It was this town from where Kirsten’s great-great-grandfather (Kirsten is one half of the current custodians of the estate, along with husband Derek) came when he migrated to Australia in 1839. So, each wine gets a fabric for a name (trust me, there are much sillier ideas). A pale lemon colour, the wine opens with lovely lemon and floral notes. 2023 was a fine vintage for the Eden Valley and the lime notes soon emerge, to the wine’s advantage. A little spiciness is to be found, along with fine acidity. This is drinking so beautifully now that one could almost be forgiven for not putting at least a few in the cellar, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you failed to do so. Enjoy it now and over the next five to ten years (does anyone else immediately think of Dylan’s great line about that being “exactly what you get” on hearing that? And if not, perhaps carry on as before and completely ignore this last comment). Cracking Riesling with a good future.
