Paracombe Caretaker Cabernet 2018

Fall into a well of this wine and your senses would perish happy, the 2018 Caretaker Cabernet beckons you in with tonka bean, liqueur cherries and blackcurrant. There is leather polish, gravel and wood shavings. Tobacco, cumin and allspice. Oak is notched up and decidedly alluring, with cold drip coffee and dark river stones. For all of the descriptors the wine still drinks with a medium, very even body of dusty tannins and crunchy acidity. You are left with some purple shaded fruit, fig and blueberry, and bitter roots, and earthy forest floor. For myself I’d be happy to keep swirling and inhaling all day long. This is nostalgic and worth a quick decant and a slice of beef wellington alongside it. Drink now or in 5-8 years.
