Cabernet Franc is a bit of a maligned or forgotten grape, usually overshadowed by its frequent blending partners, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. So it’s great to see an example of it which is fun and worth a bit of hype. Patch’s Franc is super fragrant, presenting an array of characters across the fruit and savoury spectrum, such as fresh beetroot, red and black cherry, tomato leaf, forest floor and a touch of pyrazines. It’s got quite a quaffable palate, particularly after it’s left to breathe for a while, and it’s a great match for a meal with a bit of spice and/or meat.
