Payne’s Rise Pinot Gris 2024

To the eye, it presents a brilliant lemon colour and a delicate nose of candied lemon, mandarin peel, with a fragrance from camomile flowers and Packham pears, and that comforting spiciness of freshly grated ginger. Like having a generous dollop of fresh cream, the texture on the palate fills every angle, with the contained acidity percolating through the cracks of the judiciously used oak. It will do well as an apéritif or alongside a plate of spaghetti with vongole and roasted cherry tomatoes.
