Earthy with a liquorice root opening, followed by darker notes of tar, blackberry, dark cherry, cut leather and pops of vanilla bean. Very high quality fruit and oak combo here. The palate has a good measure of restrained power. It wants to unleash, but it’s controlled and focused. There’s a core of black cherry, black berry again with earthy and dusty notes dancing around it. Big acid and fine chiselled tannins constrict around the fruit, making for a poised, elegant and long finish of dark fruit and earthiness. This is a classy wine, with a long life ahead.
