Pewsey Vale The Contours Riesling 10 year Museum Reserve 2012

The great joy of tasting a wine this complex is the unlimited potential for discovery. Every sip yields something new, a new flavour, a new quirk of acid or texture. Steel yourself, because there’s a lot to unpack here. Let’s talk about the nose. Lime cordial, grapefruit jelly, lemongrass, crunchy apricot and nectarine with dried walnut and almond butter. Phew. That’s to say nothing of the herbal spiciness and river rock minerality. The palate has a marked creaminess, frangipane and lemon curd, but there’s a self-assured line of acid and zest for existence that follows all the way through. A superlative piece of wine-making and one I look forward to visiting again in another 10 years.
