Picardy Merlimont 2019

Share

65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. When time does its inevitable thing and a wine fuses and comes together in a bottle you have something that truly encompasses the Aristotle philosophy of sums and parts. What may not be apparent on first inspection, reveals itself in mysterious ways. This of course is the role of an artist or in this case winemaker. The 2019 Merlimont shows a red plum core with a smattering of blackberries and juniper buds. Crushed allspice, coffee granules and licorice root. Freshly laid tar, granite and black sesame is perfectly positioned alongside fresh bay leaf and rosemary stem.  Savoury and powdery tannins with a lift of fresh bright acidity. This is beautifully handled, elegant and a joy to drink.
