A restrained perfume of violets, brick dust, blood orange, cinnamon quill, nutmeg, terracotta edges, bing cherry and a touch of woodsmoke. It doesn’t leap from the glass, but there are charming elements. Some juiciness to the palate — dark cherry, blood plum, dried violets, peat-like woodsmoke. The tannins are firm and stacked, leading to reasonable length. Intensity is a minor quibble, the mid-palate not quite delivering on vibrancy and pop, but a lovely expression at $37.
