95% Syrah with the addition of 5% Viognier from a single vineyard in the Yarra Valley. The wine is a toffee apple rouge in the glass. Aromas of native rosella blooms, bleeding pomegranate hulls and salted dried plums. The red fruit comes alive with fresh raspberries and sweet strawberries. There is significant residual fruit nectar here that just tickles the sides of the palate and allows the very velvety tannins to shine. There is no doubt this wine is styled for cuisine. I commend what Ray Chen is doing, offering up fruit forward enticing wines that almost any palate would enjoy. This is a crimson wine with a touch of sweetness and it’s handled very well. There are a lot of people searching for exactly this wine. This would be ideal with crispy fried pork floss served over a mushroom porridge, and one gooey egg on top. Heaven!
