To me, Chardonnay bears the semblance of a Hollywood doyen – they are not typecast. Take for instance Leonardo Di Caprio – from his role as Jack Dawson, a third-class vagabond in the Titanic, to Jordan Belfort, a stockbroker with a penchant for all that is illicit in the Wolf of Wall Street. Rosily’s Chardonnay are backing for my case – the 2023 demure, the 2022 decadent and if you’ll continue to indulge my analogy, like Di Caprio in Great Gatsby. Pine lime and lemon curd to the fore, flint then a praline nuttiness taking centre stage. The wild ferment imparts a little funk – for some added intrigue. A stratified wine, built on layers of green apple, lemongrass, roasted chestnut, buttered toast and Nutrigrain cereal. Whilst luscious and ripe, Lemmes has skillfully retained structure and length. With a textured, malty finish, this is a well-integrated, well-made wine.

An advocate for chardonnay, she plans to use her position as Deputy Chair for Wine Communicators SA Chapter to break the ABC (Anything But Chardonnay) stigma. If sentenced to death, her last meal would be freshly baked bread and salted butter paired with a glass of the best wine in the world - chardonnay of course.
