Saltram Edward Salter Cabernet 2023

This is one of those wines that’s only made when all the little duckies get in a row, and despite the wet conditions for the 2023 vintage in Barossa, I’m very glad this wine got made, as it’s fantastic. A dense, inky core of purple illustrates the youth and richness of the wine, with captivating and pronounced aromas of baking spices, blackcurrant, tea leaves, smoke and chocolate. The palate is juicy, bright and silky, with mammoth, teeth-staining tannins which are starting to settle down. Not surprisingly, this wine will age and will probably reach its peak in about 10 years, but in the meantime it’s ready to be enjoyed with a juicy steak or roast.
