Schild Estate Narrow Road Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet 2019

Immediately noticeable for the appealing presentation in the squat bottle, but don’t let anyone fool you into thinking that this is some sort of gimmick wine. Definitely not. From the Narrow Road Vineyard which is located in the hills behind the township of Rowland Flat, the vineyard is adjacent to the Schild family homestead which they purchased back in 1952. Hand harvesting, crushed into traditional open top fermenters for pre-fermentation cold soaking before a gentle pumping over and/or punching down. A mix of new and older oak is used for maturation for “18 to 24 months”. The blend is 66% Shiraz and 34% Cabernet Sauvignon with the two varieties kept separate until the final blending.

This is black/blue in colour, quite inky. Notes of chocolate, mocha, new leather and appealing delicatessen touches. Concentrated and plush, this is a classic Barossa version of the great Aussie blend. Young, fresh, good intensity and excellent length with fine tannins. Delicious now, but it really does have a lot of improving ahead of it. Seamless. Love it.
