Schubert Estate The Lone Goose Shiraz 2017

This is one intense wine experience. At 15% alcohol, the winemaker walks a fine line balancing an incredible richness of fruit while also delivering structure and freshness. It’s all there in the glass. Big inhale . . . black cherry, blackberry, Christmas cake and spices of nutmeg and clove. One noted Australian wine critic described a previous vintage of The Lone Goose as “formidable.” Its style is definitely one for those drinkers who like their Barossa shiraz living large but, that said, the role of 3% viognier (co-fermented) and the presence of fine – and firm – tannins also brings more obvious freshness and structure than most. The mouth is crammed with deep, concentrated flavours incorporating a delicious chocolate-Cherry Ripe mix of fruit and dusty cacao notes.
