It is always exciting when the first wines from the new vintage start coming in giving a little taste of what the year will bring. 2020 was not the easiest vintage in South Australia and there is a good chance that the cooler areas such as Watervale will make the best of it. And that’s exactly what you find here – a Watervale style this is a little more flavoursome at a young age than usual that delivers delicious drinkability and subtlety.
Pale in colour, it shows pristine and delicate aromatic fruits – citrus and baths salts stand out with a touch of guava plus an attractive earthy slatiness. Mid weight, the acid is crisp without being tart with good palate weight supporting in a long and fine package plus a peppery edge right on the finish. A user-friendly style of Watervale Riesling well pitched to enjoy over the next five years.
