Shaw Wines Winemakers Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Shaw Wines have an impressive record with their Cabernets and one sip of this wine will confirm why. The fruit for their 2019 was harvested at night, in temperatures below 20°C, to preserve freshness and fruit flavours. Open top fermenters are used with subsequent maturation in ‘predominantly’ French oak barrels. 

This really did impress. Deep purple in colour, the nose is a delight – bright, vibrant flavours with notes of violets, florals, mulberries, blueberries, coffee beans and more. The oak is very well integrated. Well structured, the wine is elegant with good length, and yet maintains the intensity throughout. Slightly furry tannins at the finish tie it all together along with good acidity. Lovely now but it has at least a decade to shine.
